16th & S St. NW

CHALLENGE

Built in 1917, the historical landmark was experiencing water infiltration issues along with a deteriorating cornice. Built with a combination of limestone and masonry, the building had historical decorations that needed to be preserved.

SOLUTION

SMG was able to do the façade repointing on all sides of the building. Specialty mortar and masonry experts were called in to help preserve the integrity of the old building’s cornice. During the process, asbestos was found and a complete asbestos abatement was done to protect the residents.

RESULT

SMG was able to completely preserve the architectural integrity of the building and maintain the historical significance of the space. All asbestos was removed and the water infiltration was fixed.
